7 Ways To Lose Out On Search Engine Traffic
1. Linking to external sites without adding http://
when the search engine bot comes across a link on your site with no http:// before it, it will consider the link as part of your domain and index it as an internal page that would be formatted similar to this: http://afterbedtimeblog.com/twitter.com AND then it will index the link as being broken which leads to being a crawl error.
2. Configuring the XML Sitemap to include your tags and categories pages.
Every time you add a tag to a post or a category to a post, you’re generating another version of your post. If you include this in your sitemap, and google indexes these multiple pages with DUPLICATE content, you’ll get slapped into next week.
3. Don’t submit your sitemap to Google, Bing or Yahoo.
What was the point of installing the damn plugin if you’re not going to use it? Let’s just sit around and wait for the search engines to stumble across you and then allow it to index whatever the hell it wants, including all your duplicate content.
4. Never Ever use Webmaster Tools.
Webmaster tools is free from Google and Bing and gives you insight into your site’s performance and offers you a way to better your search engine ranking by telling you what’s wrong with your site.. If you don’t use it, then you’re not communicating with the search engines or working with them to better your ranking.
5. Never clean up your crawl errors
Webmaster tools will supply you with a list of your crawl errors. You can install the Redirection plugin and use it to redirect broken links. Then communicate with the search engine that you’ve fixed them. You’ll see your alexa better the next day, but who wants that?
6. Don’t SEO your posts
Search engine optimizing your posts reinforces to google that you blog on these topics. Helps with search engine ranking. helps people find your info on crafts, cooking, coupons, etc.
7.Install All In One SEO and never use it.
This has to be the best plugin I’ve ever come across and it’s bloody free. i know it seems daunting to some to fill out all the fields. Just do it. Your site will benefit from it.
There you have it! Couldn’t be easier. You can never do this and miss out on search engine traffic and you’re good to go!
